BLOOD BROTHERS
Gulf Coast Records’ Blues Music Award-Winners Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia bond as Blood Brothers on new CD coming early 2023. Blood Brothers was produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith and recorded at Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana.
Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia are true “Blood Brothers” in life and in the music they create both individually and collectively, joining forces in a collaborative effort of songwriting and performances to create a total listening experience greater than the sum of its parts. Added to that process are the talents of producers Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith, who brought fresh ideas to the recording sessions, pushing Mike and Albert creatively and musically to present their best work to date.
“Mike and Albert have a special chemistry together when they
plug in and play that few have. They finish each other's
sentences musically,” award-winning guitarist Joe Bonamassa
said about the sessions. “Great tunes, great people, great hang!
What's not to like? It was an honor to be involved in this
project."
"Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia have done something special,” added co-producer Josh Smith. “They have both found their musical confidante. Most solo artists never even look - let alone find - theirs. They have brought together a real ‘band’ using members of each's solo acts. The sum of all these parts added with a tremendous effort to both write and perform the strongest record of their respective careers has paid off in a special album.
Blood Brothers indeed! Joe and I are proud that these brothers trusted our partnership to produce this special album!"
Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia will be hitting the road again in support of the new Blood Brothers album. They will bring together their two powerhouse bands, featuring
Matt Johnson:drums;
Ephraim Lowell: drums;
Doug Byrkit: bass; and
Lewis Stephens: piano/organ.
Both Mike and Albert will be onstage performing together for the entire show, so fans can enjoy the
amazing chemistry and creativity that these two musicians share with each other – and the audience. In addition to their own rock, blues and roots individual tunes, the set will feature a number of songs from the Blood Brothers album.
Both Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia are celebrating their most-recent albums: Zito’s double live set, Blues for the Southside (released Feb. 2021), debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues Chart; and Castiglia’s latest solo disc, I Got Love, (released in May, 2022) also charted very high.
Mike Zito won the 2022 Blues Music Award for “Blues Rock Album;” and Albert Castiglia won the BMA for “Blues Rock Artist.” With both artists on the exciting Gulf Coast Records label, it only made sense to join forces and give the fans what they’ve long been clamoring for: “Blood Brothers.”
DOM MARTIN
Although a young man relatively new to the scene, it would be wrong to think Dom Martin hasn't paid his life and musical dues. Brought up in the often tough, but community driven streets of Belfast Northern Ireland, Dom traded his craft for a time locally without a (self confessed) clue how to break into the (international) music business and possibly with too much humility to try. 'Discovered' by his present management, Dom has made a fairly 'meteoric' rise in terms of today's industry,
His jaw dropping, entirely natural sounding and unforced/unschooled skill on acoustic guitar, matched with an authentic 'Belfast Blues' voice, brings to mind comparisons with many from (Glasgow born) John Martyn to Rory Gallagher, with nods to many in-between, not least perhaps the likes of Van Morrison and Foy Vance. Dom has won multiple awards for his acoustic work with a 2019 European award, UK awards in 2020/2021 and 2022 and as a result is now an inductee in the UK Blues Hall of Fame.
Dom is equally adept on electric with his power trio, having won the UK Blues Awards Best Instrumentalist Award 2022. The trio is always an extremely popular addition to any blues/rock festival and Dom always likes to include a Rory Gallagher song or two amongst his originals as he strives “to keep Rory’s music alive”.
THE CINLELLI BROTHERS
BREEZY RODIO
On “So Close To It,” Breezy Rodio shows that he is well enough entrenched in the Chicago blues community to summon an A list of accompanists and guests from Lurrie Bell to organist Chris Foreman. He has written and chosen appropriate musical vehicles, and infuses them with immaculately tasteful vocals and guitar, displaying a noteworthy affinity with the legacies of T-Bone Walker and B.B. King.
BYWATER CALL
Singer Meghan Parnell and guitarist Dave Barnes are the driving force behind Bywater Call, a powerhouse 7-piece Southern Soul, Roots Rock outfit out of Toronto, Canada.
The band’s much anticipated sophomore album was released September 2, 2022 to rave reviews.
The release followed an extensive tour of the EU which featured a mainstage appearance at the Netherlands’ premiere blues festival MOULIN BLUES. Performances there have been praised in Dutch and German media, with references to Meghan as one of the best singers in blues and roots today. Born out of a love for southern soul, blues and roots music and a passion to create a powerful and moving experience for listeners, Bywater Call is completed by Bruce McCarthy on drums, Mike Meusel on Bass, newest member John Kervin on Keys, Stephen Dyte on Trumpet and Julian Nalli on Tenor Sax
“Finding a perfect combination of ‘killer studio band’ and ‘unbelievable live act’ doesn’t come along too often, but on that rare occasion when the stars are seemingly aligned, serious music fans take notice…. We recently discovered the Toronto-based 7-piece soul-roots band Bywater Call at the Home County Music & Art Festival, and – if we are to be brutally honest here – were not only in complete awe of their music and energy, but were totally blown away by their unrelenting, unabashed live performance…” Great Dark Wonder
“Bywater Call’s mix of blues, roots, rock, and soul, plus their masterful musicianship, and the impressive vocal/slide guitar combo of Parnell and Barnes makes for some mighty fine music. Remain is an album that deserves to be heard.” BluesBytes, Phoenix
“While the blues and roots scene is full of excellent musicians, good songwriters are a bit harder to come by. However, when both disciplines come together, the results can be spectacular. Such is the case for Bywater Call’s incredible sophomore album ‘Remain’.” Kevy Metal, Kevin Pasman
“a new record arrives from Canada by the outfit Bywater Call, and it’s stunning. Remain is an 11-track collection of songs that is brilliantly performed by this sevenpiece band…. The vocals are rawer; the slide guitar playing is more languid and long... From the first track to the last the power presented, even on the slower tracks, is overwhelming. This is a band birthed more out of Lynryd Skynyrd that Allman and songs land punches at every turn.” Disciples of Sound
“With pipes built for power ballads, Meghan Parnell is right at home in the muscular, expansive sound generated by this Ontario-based seven-piece, rhythm-and-horns outfit. Her force and focus are a constant on an all-original set both stylish and soulful.” Roots Music Report
JESS HAYES AND FRANKIE CONNOLLY BAND
London based Rock-Blues singer/songwriter Jess was raised on rock and blues by her musician parents; who have their own band (Bad Influence). She would go along to their gigs every weekend and knew that’s exactly what she wanted to do when she grew up. The day her mum looked down from the stage and saw shy Jess (age 9) head-banging to their version of ‘Running down a dream’ by Tom Petty, she thought that girl might just have the blues! Jess says “Being raised by musicians has been the best thing ever and I’ve never taken it for granted. Mum and Dads writing and playing has completely guided my way through my own musical journey as I love what they do. They really are my biggest inspiration. Jess started guesting with them at age 15 and since then has guested with them on some incredible stages.
Age 16, Jess thought it was time to spread her wings and started at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey. She studied there for 3 years discovering new artists as she went, such as Led Zeppelin, who she credits as one of her biggest influences! It was a real learning curve and a great experience to be around young like-minded musicians. Age 19 she graduated and couldn’t wait to get out in the world and start gigging. She formed the ‘Jess Hayes Band’ playing the London blues circuit. Covid hit not long after Jess started out and she was gutted to be halted as so many were. She used the time to write her first EP. In early 2021 the band went into the studio and created ‘On My Own’. Jess says “Writing songs straight from the heart with a whole lot of soul is what I’m all about. It was one of the best experiences of my life recording my first EP that I feel truly represents me and I feel it’s just the start of my very exciting journey”.
Jess’s biggest influences include Stevie Nicks, Paul Rogers, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Queen, Tedeschi Trucks, Grace Potter, The Bros Landreth, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Chris Stapleton and Eva Cassidy.
Following on the release of her Debut EP Jess has played at some amazing events such as Isle of Wight Festival and Ealing Blues Festival, promoting the album and gaining amazing fans. A new live EP is in the works and is set to be released early summer 2023. Featuring Frankie Connolly, Richard Clarke, Jonny Brister and Beau Barnard. Covering a couple of Jess’s favourite artists and her own originals.
She is backed by killer guitar solos and a solid rhythm section. Not to be missed and definitely one to watch!
